the ALLIANCE of WARRIORS

When I returned to camp, it was alight with song and dance. We raised our goblets and drank the fresh nectar of His majesty’s fountain. Our fires burned with a quiet grace as sparks and glitters leapt off the top like dancing butterflies. The warriors of the king had gathered and I had been chosen to lead the army.

The army was mighty and I felt as though I was not prepared. “I do not feel like I have the wisdom or the strategy to command to war.” I told Crystal. She smiled patiently like a loving mother. “In time, you will become even greater than what you saw in the lake of colors”. She was teasing me but it felt good. She was my best friend, companion and guide.

“I must prepare. Will you train with me?” I asked. She made a face and then shook her head. “No you must rest” “Thanks, mum” I retorted. She stood up, smiling, and playfully shoved me into the grass. “Some battles do not require physical strength. I’ll see you in the morning.” “You won’t stay a little longer?” I asked. “Captain, you need rest. I need rest.” Her eyes never left mine as she backed away and finally turned and went to her tent.

I could not sleep. Who could on such a night? I had lost all sense of time in this place. The days came quickly and the nights were equally brief. Time was a mystery in this place. Time obeyed the purpose of this place; it had no power. I decided to walk around our camp and think about the warriors that would ride with me to fight their worst fears.

There was the strong fellow Gustav. If not for this seemingly reckless grace, he would be Captain Gustav. He had the physique of a bear and his arms were like the legs of mammoths. There was Abraham, an elder warrior but without doubt faithful to Elyon.

There was the witty and wise Venice, a leader of those who have the eyesight of eagles. Keith on his part had the advantage of youth, swift feet and uncompromising energy level.

Though he was only a teenager, his passion for the King was like a bubbling spring. He loved to discuss the ways and acts of the Lord of heaven but his weakness was that he possessed a flighty of heart, always wanting to jump into the next activity in the camp and in most cases without completing ongoing projects. I would keep an eye on him when the fighting began.

At the very heart of the camp, Torethe and Selmione, the ladies of velvet sat waxing the bowstrings of hundreds of bows. They were often called the queens of the bow as their passion was building bows and arrows. There was Tekoa the giant, Gashun who worked the furnace of fire and crafted our weapons of war; Mesurah, Tendfah and Alice who were minstrels with amazing voices; Adrian, Eleese, Brenda and Detrick of the watchmen.
